In an angst-ridden screed on Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump lashed out at New York Judge Juan Merchan for refusing to throw out his criminal hush-money conviction.

Calling Merchan a “radical partisan” who is “deeply conflicted, corrupt, biased,” Trump described the ruling as a “psychotic order” that “goes against our Constitution.”

Trump claimed he was being held under an “illegal gag order” by Merchan and if he was released from it, he would “expose” the judge and judge’s family’s “disqualifications.”

Merchan explained Monday that he wouldn’t dismiss Trump’s conviction because the charged offenses occurred before Trump began his initial term as president, meaning the Supreme Court’s sweeping immunity protections for “official acts” of the president didn’t apply to Trump here. The “overwhelming evidence of guilt” laid out at trial, Merchan wrote, showed Trump’s bid to cover up hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels was outside even the “outer perimeter” of immunity protections because the falsification of records was “decidedly personal.”

Donald Trump lashed out at the judge overseeing his criminal case after the president-elect's latest attempt to have his conviction quashed was fully rejected.

New York justice Juan Merchan issued a ruling Monday that Trump cannot claim presidential immunity to overturn a jury's guilty verdict on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

The president-elect reacted furiously the following day on Truth Social.....

Also on Monday, the Supreme Court once again rejected a request to lift the gag order imposed by Merchan that prohibits Trump from commenting publicly on witnesses, prosecutors, jurors, or court staffers and their family members. The judge himself is not covered under that order.

“The application for stay addressed to Justice [Clarence] Thomas and referred to the Court is denied,” the order stated, with no further comment.
