Trump picks former Senate candidate Herschel Walker for ambassador to the Bahamas

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday named Herschel Walker, who unsuccessfully ran for a Georgia Senate seat in 2022, as his pick for U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nations youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad, Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Walker, a Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Georgia before he played in the NFL, led a tumultuous Senate campaign two years ago as the Republican nominee in his home state, Georgia, ultimately losing to Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in a runoff.
NBC News reported in 2022 that financial troubles, micromanaging and Walkers evasiveness about his past all contributed to problems during his candidacy. His campaign was rocked just weeks before the election when a bombshell report said Walker, a staunch anti-abortion candidate, paid for a womans abortion in 2009.

My last vacation to the Caribbean was about 10 years ago to Nassau (me and my sisters and their kids went there after my mother passed away earlier that year - previous time there was in 1975). And now the poor country is going to be slimed by this guy (and I remember when he briefly played for the Eagles).

Oh? I hadn't noticed, and I don't think anyone else did either.
At least Trump is consistent in his incredibly bad choices. Choosing the worst people to fill posts in his administration will be one of the "highlights" of his term in office.
It's like one of those clown cars at the circus. The clowns keep coming out, and you marvel at how many there are.

(51,611 posts)In 1983 Mr. Walker signed with the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League. In 1984 Trump bought the Generals and Walker became his employee. Walker was a good enough player to move to the NFL after Trump destroyed the USFL.
