Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) called out Republicans for their part in the most unproductive Congress on Wednesday after Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump paraded House Speaker Mike Johnsons (R-La.) stopgap spending bill into chaos.
Were looking at this like this is their problem, Crockett told MSNBCs Alex Wagner.
She later continued, Heres the deal there is no fixing this without the Democrats. We have seen this over and over and Im just going to sit back and sip my tea and wait on them to figure it out.
Trump, in a joint statement with Vice President-elect JD Vance on Wednesday, knocked a bipartisan budget deal that would have averted a government shutdown before funding expires on Friday.

(3,585 posts)Being smug about sipping our tea is fun but gotta take the openings to ding the Repugs more pointedly whenever possible. Keep it to a sentence if possible...and one that jabs the baddies not makes us look like we are just sitting back.

(300 posts)She also said Democrats had to be involved at some point. Never said wouldn't talk when the MAGAts are ready.

(411 posts)Go ask the Republicans why they want to shut down government...only answer any democrat gives to the question. Must be repeated a thousand times no variation or expounding.

(3,319 posts)"Trump on top of his call for a new budget bill demanded a debt ceiling raise under the Biden administration as he threatened Republicans with primaries should they try to pass the continuing resolution without such a move."
He's in near total control of Republicans in both houses of congress. He's negotiating with them on currently pending legislation. I've not seen this with any other POTUS-elect.

Left to right: Republican presidential candidate John McCain, House Minority Leader John Boehner, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, President George W. Bush, Senate Majority Leader Sen. (3,319 posts)In the case you cited above, it was September and Obama hadn't yet been elected. (My reference was to a president-elect taking control well before January 20th.)
In the meeting pictured, it appears that Obama was present in his capacity as a Senator and was in consultation with both his political opponent (McCain) and the sitting president (W. Bush) on the subject of the bailout. Obama wasn't controlling congress in advance of his taking office like Trump is now. He wasn't acting like he was president, throwing his weight around and threatening people like Trump is.
I love your posts and wouldn't want to cross you on anything, but maybe I'm missing something in your point?

(144,282 posts)that Obama was pretty aggressive both before the election and just after due to the economic collapse that he ended up inheriting (and it was dramatic when compared to how McCain was handling it). And his forward-thinking and engagement during his campaign and through his first year, resulted in his getting that Nobel Peace Prize that 45 whines about!
But specifically - here is something from the NYT that illustrates it at the time when Obama was President-elect -

CHICAGO President-elect Barack Obama sought to seize the reins of the economic crisis Monday as he and his new economic team worked closely with President Bush to inject confidence into the trembling financial markets, which rallied and erased most of last weeks losses.
The coordination between Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush was taking place among aides, as well as in direct talks about the rescue plan for Citigroup and unresolved details of the overall Treasury bailout plan. The president said his successor would be informed of every big decision that was made, adding, Its important for the American people to know that there is close cooperation.
To calm anxious markets, the Federal Reserve and the Treasury plan to announce a major lending program on Tuesday to jump-start frozen loan markets, administration officials said. The Treasury had signaled earlier this month that it was considering such an action for consumer loans, but the action to be announced will broaden the program to include business debt.
In effect, the program would create a government bank to finance hundreds of billions of dollars in commercial debt, like car loans, student loans and business leases. The Treasury is expected to contribute $10 billion to $20 billion in seed capital, which would come from the $700 billion originally provided to shore up the financial system. The Federal Reserve would lend the new entity as much as 20 times that amount. For his part, Mr. Obama sought to assure Americans and foreign investors that he was seeking to fill any leadership vacuum, and said his economic advisers would begin working today. The advisers include Timothy F. Geithner, his choice for Treasury secretary.

People forget how bad things were back then. I think that January 2009, there was a loss of something like 700+ thousand jobs for that month alone and by March of 2009, the Dow, that had hit a record high that October 2007 of around 14,000, had dropped to 6000.

... the president yet. He has zero authority to be giving orders to anyone. Perhaps someone should remind him of that. And you can bet your butt cheeks it won't be a gelding. Only the women in Congress have the balls to call him out.
And someone had better muzzle Musk, and fast. That weasel in off his chain and looking to destroy everything in sight.
When monsters promise to destroy the country, it is not the time to pontificate with nonsense like, "When they go low, we go high." Stop letting the evil ones hijack the narrative; tell people the truth in terms they can understand, not arcane expositions about policy.
