New York CNN — Following a brief outage that grounded all American airlines flights during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, American Airlines says it has resumed service Tuesday morning.

American Airlines said a “vendor technology issue” was responsible for delaying all of its flights in the United States. But the company began boarding flights again at around 8 am ET, and flights have since resumed, airline spokeswoman Sarah Jantz told CNN.

The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its nationwide groundstop order for all American flights. The FAA in a statement said American requested a nationwide ground stop but it referred all questions to the airline for more information. The outage came on a day when the airline is scheduled to have more than 3,300 domestic flights, according to the aviation analytics firm Cirium. The airline resumed service with residual delays but without a substantial number of cancelations.

“It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible,” the airline said. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.” American said delayed customers should be on their way with minimal disruption.

New York CNN -- Following a brief outage that grounded all American airlines flights during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, American Airlines says it has resumed service Tuesday morning. American Airlines said a "technical issue" had delayed all of its flights in the United States. But the company began boarding flights again at around 8 am ET, airline spokeswoman Sarah Jantz told CNN.

The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its nationwide groundstop order for all American flights. The FAA in a statement said American requested a nationwide ground stop but it referred all questions to the airline for more information. "We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," American Airlines said in a statement.

David Myers, a 62-year-old disaster consultant traveling from from Salisbury, Maryland, to New Orleans with a layover in Charlotte said he was first alerted to the issue at 6 am Tuesday morning. He and his wife are trying to spend Christmas with their children.

"It's Christmas Eve, so complaining doesn't seem quite right," Myers told CNN. "And safety always comes first. But more information at the gate would be helpful."

New York CNN -- American Airlines said a "technical issue" is delaying all of its flights in the United States during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. "A technical issue is affecting American flights this morning," an airline spokesperson told CNN. "Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."

The Federal Aviation Administration posted a nationwide groundstop order for all American flights, according to an advisory notice. The FAA in a statement said American Airlines requested a nationwide ground stop but it referred all questions to the airline for more information.

Customers on social media began complaining early Tuesday morning that some flights were returning to their gates and that delays are about 90 minutes.

On american (and several other airlines i believe) because the system that printed out the planes passenger manifest and cargo wasnt working.

Its an faa requirement pilots get printed manifests. No paper, no flight.

Just one example. Sometimes subsystems can have huge impacts.

they can't adjust w/o them. Perhaps airlines should hire mathematicians that can use a slide rule.

American Airlines nationwide ground stop lifted, FAA says

The nationwide ground stop on American Airlines flights has been lifted, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement at about 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The airline requested a nationwide ground stop due to a technical issue earlier Tuesday morning, the FAA confirmed, stopping all American flights at Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway International Airports — along with every other airport — during the start of a busy Christmas Eve travel day.

American Airlines has not provided an update since the FAA reported the ground stop has been lifted, including on what specifically the technical issue was or if there will be any continuing ramifications on its flights Tuesday.

The airline issued a statement early Tuesday morning, saying: “A technical issue is affecting American flights this morning. Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

My flight tracking display is getting a rapid increase in flights with call signs beginning AAL. Going from 24 over CONUS and Mexico to 60 in a few minutes.

As in landing without a runway or landing gear.

Hey, those parts were cheaper.
