President Biden and his family are heading to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands for a final holiday before he leaves the White House next month.
The trip has become an annual one for the Bidens, who in the past have stayed at a wealthy donor's home on the island. It's the third year in a row the president and his family have traveled to St. Croix for the New Year's holiday. Last year in St. Croix, Mr. Biden said his New Year's resolution was "to come back next year."
The president did not speak to reporters Thursday before boarding Air Force One. Mr. Biden and his family usually largely stay out of public view during these vacations. Multiple family members are expected to join the president and first lady Jill Biden on the trip.
The island, an American territory, is 84 square miles, with a population of about 41,000 people. Highs are expected to be in the 70s and 80s during the president's trip. The Bidens arrived on Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. ET, or 2 p.m. local time. While this is his final holiday as president, Mr. Biden is expected to visit Rome in January and meet with Pope Francis.

(30,233 posts)It was, back then, a very nice laid back island. Not as many tourists as either of the other US Virgin Islands.
Hope he has a good time there.

(8,551 posts)(then girlfriend - his daughter) and I went for a visit - it was beautiful. I think I read that facility is now closed. We had a really nice time. Beaches and cliffs were not crowded and I remember "The Buccaneer".

(12,719 posts)in '70, my new wife and I stared at the little green gecko on the ceiling over the bed.
As I was pointing out how the little suction cup feet of the gecko keep it attached to the ceiling, the little scoundrel lost suction and fell on her FACE!
Well, she let out a scream that matched the sound of terror of that actor who got a spider on his face in the Home Alone movie. And in an open-air cottage with all the windows open, I'm certain that other couples in cottages up to a mile away might have thought they just heard someone get murdered.
I never figured out if it was an accident, or if the bugger did it on purpose.
