Costco egg recall may cause 'serious' illness or death, FDA says as it raises risk level

An ongoing recall of Costco eggs over salmonella has been escalated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, who placed the recall in its most severe class in December 2024, about a month after the recall was initially issued.

The recall is now Class I, meaning that "there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can be deadly when consumed by certain populations, especially those who are immunocompromised, such as pregnant people and the elderly.

I bought a quiche loraine from Aldi's last week, it was unfrozen but carefully refrigerated. In case you don't know, quiche loraine is sort of like a pieshell filled with cheese omelet ingredients and baked like an apple pie. I baked it 5 minutes longer than the directions said, and it tasted yummy.

But later that night I had a stomach ache and indigestion with more problems the next morning. All I could think was that the quiche gave me a mild case of food poisoning. Could have been worse, but I don't get sick very often.

After everyone stops buying them because they contain salmonella or bird flu. Then Trump will take credit for it but claim it's due to his fixing the economy.
