JD Vance calls UK 'some random country that hasn't fought war in 30 years'
Source: The Mirror
JD Vance slammed the UK as "some random country that hasn't fought a war in 30 years" while disapproving of plans to send 20,000 British and French troops to Ukraine as a peacekeeping force.
The US Vice President said the only way to secure lasting peace in the region is to grant the US an "economic upside in the future of Ukraine". He said: "If you want real security guarantees, if you want to actually ensure that Vladimir Putin does not invade Ukraine again, the very best security guarantee is to give Americans economic upside in the future of Ukraine. That is a way better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn't fought a war in 30 or 40 years."
He also said: "The only guy in town with a strategy is the President of the United States, and everybody needs to follow his lead." The UK Government said on Tuesday it remains "absolutely committed" to securing peace in Ukraine and is "engaging with key allies" after Trump paused US military aid to the country.
Despite Vance's comment, the UK has been involved in several military interventions around the world since 1980, and some of the most brutal have been with the US. Hundreds of British service personnel were killed when the UK helped the US with fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan during the early 2000s. After Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the UK played a supporting role to the US in a fierce bombing campaign against Iraq the following year. This Anglo-American airstrike campaign continued for a decade after the Gulf War, lasting until the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

That's exactly how Trump's Russian mobster friends threaten a business owner: "If you want real security (you don't want your restaurant to burn down and your whole family murdered) just hand over 50% of the profits....we can be partners."

(21,709 posts)President Trump emphatically denied a new report that said he had called Americans who died at war "losers" and "suckers."
"I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more. So, I just think it's a horrible, horrible thing," he told reporters, as he returned from a airport rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Thursday night.
Earlier in the evening, he tweeted, "I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES. This is more made up Fake News given by disgusting & jealous failures in a disgraceful attempt to influence the 2020 Election!"
The article, published Thursday and reported by The Atlantic editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg, cites four anonymous sources with firsthand knowledge of Mr. Trump's comments. It says the president canceled his visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018 in part because he believed the Marines who died in the battle of Belleau Wood during World War I were "suckers." According to the report, Mr. Trump said, "Why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers."

(726 posts)may have been the last "war" England lost, as opposed to fought. The British took our side in Afghanistan, Iraq 1, and Iraq 2.
The Revolutionary War was a "bush fire" war amidst a long series of wars with France. A sideshow for the British, a "Vietnam" as it were. The wars with France ended in a British victory that eventually helped to ignite the French Revolution.
The war of 1812 was predominantly a loss, or at best a draw, for the U.S., since the infamous Battle of New Orleans was fought after it actually ended, and the British/Canadians captured and burned the American capitol. Negotiations had been set up and the Treaty of Ghent was sign re-establishing the pre-war borders.
Another "bushfire" war as it were, a minor part of the Napolianic Wars which, again, England won in the end.
Since WWII the U.S. has fought to a draw in Korea, withdrawn and lost in Vietnam, withdrawn and lost in Afghanistan, and withdrawn and lost in Iraq.
0-3-1 is not a very impressive record.
The continuing long war verses the Soviet Union/Russia (1946 ~ 2025) is still ongoing but, current events, are pointing to a major loss.
"vance", despite being an "Ivy League Hillbilly" is surprisingly ignorant of all histories. Or, perhaps, unsurprisingly, in today's conservative circle of intelligence.

Apologies, UK. He's just another random dickhead with a mouth who wrote stuff while others left it on the battlefield. And then sold it as military service, which it was... in the same sense that other (he was, you know) government employees serve our country.
