Derek Chauvin seeks new trial in George Floyd murder case

Source: Scripps News

Posted 7:50 AM, Dec 03, 2025 and last updated 9:04 AM, Dec 03, 2025

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is seeking a new trial in the murder of George Floyd. Chauvin has served five years of his 22½-year sentence. Chauvin was convicted of murder charges. Chauvin and officers Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao were found guilty on federal charges of violating Floyd's civil rights.

In 2021, Judge Peter Cahill sentenced Chauvin to more than the recommended 12.5 years because Chauvin occupied a position of authority as a police officer, and because he demonstrated particular cruelty in the killing.

His attorney filed court documents asking that three criminal convictions be vacated. The filing accuses prosecutors of misconduct and argues that false testimony from expert witnesses deprived Chauvin of a fair trial.

This is not the first time Chauvin has sought to overturn the verdict.

Trump will demand the Gov do it, if it is a State Conviction. He will get the Rittenhouse hero’s welcome, and a ranking position in ICE.

He is currently in federal prison due to his federal conviction. If he is pardoned for that, he would be in state prison. State prison is way worse than federal for inmates such as him.

And no one who matters in America would believe anything those corrupt, unAmerican, traitors in the Donold Admin come up with. It's all just malicious prosecution.

I doubt there is much room for Dump to squeeze Walz more than he is already doing. There probably aren't many levers that Shitler isn't already pushing.

Trump can't pardon Chauvin for that -- if he could, I'm sure he already would have.

And I don't see any possibility that Tim Walz will pardon him.

Several of you had the same instant thought that I did, upon seeing this news: "trump pardon."

If ever there was a scumbag that would be willing to free the murderer of George Floyd, it's the guy currently defiling the White House by residing in it.

American watched and rewatched the video of you nonchalantly kneeling on George Floyds neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. You kept looking smugly at the camera with your hands in your pockets!

Bullshit!

The filing accuses prosecutors of misconduct and argues that false testimony from expert witnesses deprived Chauvin of a fair trial.

You deprived George of a life!

Maybe his time would be better spent, I don't know, bodybuilding in a bid to join a white power gang in the joint. He seems like a natural fit.
