US spent $5 billion worth of munitions in the first two days of attacks on Iran, docs show
'$5.6 billion could have paid for over 356000 Medicare or 568,00 Medicaid enrollees,' one social media user commented.
The U.S. churned through $5.6 billion worth of weaponry during the first two days of its war against Iran, highlighting the steep financial cost of the overseas conflict, according to a new report.
The Pentagon provided the estimate to lawmakers Monday, nine days after the U.S. and Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran that ignited a wider conflict across the Middle East and caused hundreds of casualties, three unnamed officials told The Washington Post.
Officials said President Donald Trumps administration is expected to submit a supplemental defense budget request to Congress in the coming days to help fund its ongoing military campaign a proposal that could reach tens of billions of dollars.
The newly reported $5.6 billion figure appears to conflict with a previous, lower, official estimate on the cost of the war.

(7,827 posts)"World War II cost the United States approximately $296 billion in 1945 dollars, equivalent to over $4 trillion today, representing about 40% of the U.S. GDP at the wars peak."
Human cost though, is a different number.
WW2 cost 295,790 in American soldiers' lives.
Between 70-85 million people all up.
War benefits a small but influential part of the human race, at massive costs in dollar and human lives.
But America loves wars, as the 'policeman of the world'.
Just overseas though, not on home turf. That wouldn't be fair. /s
