ATLANTA A leading elections expert told a federal judge on Friday that the evidence the FBI used to justify a recent seizure of 2020 election ballots from Fulton County, Georgia, doesnt make sense.. Ryan Macias, a former U.S. Election Assistance Commission official, testified that the list of irregularities the FBI identified didnt represent a crime and that the witnesses the government based their investigation on appeared misinformed..
The witnesses the FBI cited use contradictory terminology and it represents a misunderstanding of how elections work, Macias said. The testimony came amid a hearing over custody of Fulton Countys ballots and election materials, which were seized by the FBI in January during a raid on an election hub. Fulton County sued and demanded the materials back last month.
In court on Friday, Abbe Lowell, an attorney for the county, criticized the governments witnesses and information, which were laid out in a since-unsealed sworn affidavit that is full of inaccuracies.
The affidavit, which was unsealed in February and largely rehashes previously investigated election fraud claims, detailed that the evidence was based on interviews with conservative activists and a referral from Kurt Olsen, a Republican who tried to overturn the 2020 election results. Olsen was appointed by President Donald Trump to investigate the 2020 election from within his administration. Lowell argued the governments list of witnesses couldnt be trusted because, in part, it includes someone who was sanctioned twice by the courts for lying about elections, referring to Olsen.

(9,745 posts)You just don't walk in grab a ballot and vote. There can't be a bussload of people who show up and vote.
People can't bring in boxes of ballots from who knows where and have them counted.
All names are checked. If there are 1000 people regestered in your precinct and 3000 vote there would automatically be questions.

(169,485 posts)the ballots (whether absentee or in-person) are barcoded/QR-coded. So you can't have duplicates or "stuff a ballot box".
It's all nonsense.
The state of GA did THREE recounts - BY HAND - after the 2020 election. And for these bullshit claims to continue happening and the media to keep it going so they can "report on it", boggles the mind.
THAT is actually done all the time - notably in black neighborhoods and often sponsored by churches as "Souls to the Polls" to give people transportation to their voting precinct.
I am fortunate where if I wanted to vote in person, the location is a couple blocks down the street from where I live. But people in more rural areas, without public transit, and with only a SINGLE polling place in a county, there needs to be transportation to get there if one doesn't already have means.

So it's not just "busloads of 'illegals'" they are talking about.
As it is, Roberts is about to deep-six what is left of the Voting Rights Act to make it all a done deal.

(208 posts)Actually, there were two computer recounts and one hand recount.
2020 was the first use of Dominion hardware and software, so there were concerns about accuracy. As Secretary of State Raffensperger ordered the first machine recount as a verification / accuracy count. Then, because of first time use, he ordered the manual count of all ballots instead of a partial ballot manual count. Then Trump requested a recount based on the closeness of the votes.
If I recall correctly, all three counts were very close in totals, which was impressive over a nearly 5 million ballot count.
