The Harris campaign got caught in a global ant- incumbent election wave
There wasn't a whole lot they could have done differently to change the trajectory of the race. This was all about 'throw the bums out'. Might we have had a different outcome if Biden had declined to run again? I am starting to wonder about that.

President-elect Donald Trumps victory in the 2024 election was powered by a remarkably consistent nationwide trend of voters turning against the Democratic ticket. Vice President Kamala Harris performed worse than President Joe Biden did in 2020 nearly everywhere: in big cities and rural areas, in blue states and red ones.
Most of the conventional explanations for why a campaign fails things like messaging choices, or whether candidates campaigned enough in the right places cannot account for such a sweeping shift. Such factors matter on the margins and among specific demographic groups, but Harris received a decisive, across-the-board rebuke.
To explain what truly happened, we need to look at global trends as a point of comparison. And when we do, a clear picture emerges: What happened on Tuesday is part of a worldwide wave of anti-incumbent sentiment.

(36,031 posts)... and yet he won against a candidate whose record was pretty awesome. At least Kamala can say she's not a multiple felon, nor is she a rapist or a pedophile. That's how low the bar is now for Repukes to be elected President.
The evangelicals teamed up with the billionaires and tech-bros. Chump ratcheted up the fear and anxiety to a fever pitch every chance he got, and the news media gave him a free ride.
