"One is left to infer that Trump was boxed into trashing the bill by Musk’s pre-emptive assault. If Trump did not air a grievance about it, it would be clear that he was not on the same page with Musk, and that Musk had acted unilaterally. If he tried to salvage it and lost, it would be humiliating to lose to Musk. Trump’s only choice was to act as if he was in cahoots with Musk in wanting the bill tanked...
"Who won? Who lost? In the end, Musk appeared far stronger than before the madness began. Trump… not so much. Beyond being embarrassed by Musk, he was opposed by 38 House Republicans, including Chip Roy of Texas, who launched a vitriolic indictment of the C.R. from the House Floor. Add this latest comeuppance to his losses on Matt Gaetz (AG) and Rick Scott (Senate Majority Leader), and Trump has some serious bruises before even taking the oath of office.
"When the House C.R. failed, it was Musk all over the news, Musk getting all the kudos from the far right, and Musk implicitly delivering a colossal diss to Donald Trump. Yes, he ran the table, pressing all three of Trump’s hottest buttons… stealing the media spotlight, grabbing the credit, and dissing the boss.
"It’s not that hard to gaze into the future and hypothesize that this arranged bromance will not end well. It seems inevitable that Trump will not be able to tolerate a rogue agent, a person who marches to his own drum, pursues his own agenda, and doesn’t care if Trump is collateral damage...
"It could simply be that Musk – like Putin before him – views Trump as a 'useful idiot…' – a man that he can easily manipulate to achieve his own ends."
