Pro-Palestinian Activists Removed From Michigan's Student Government.
The president and vice president of the University of Michigans student assembly were impeached after they demanded divestment and stopped funding campus activities.
'Alifa Chowdhurys successful campaign to lead the University of Michigans student government promised just one thing: to block financing for campus groups until the university agreed to divest from companies that Ms. Chowdhury said profited from the Israel-Hamas war.
Nine turbulent months later, Ms. Chowdhury is out, impeached and removed from office by the student assembly just before midnight on Monday.
Ms. Chowdhurys ouster follows a lopsided impeachment vote in mid-November, which also led to the removal of Elias Atkinson, the bodys vice president and a fellow activist.'

(36,233 posts)It should only be done when you don't suffer from it. That makes it specious and trivial, but also spares you the problems that come with actual sacrifice.
The two ran on a platform of funding no groups unless the university divested. That's a pretty big signal of commitment to the cause, and apparently a lot of people voted for them based on that wonderful goal.
Except 9 months later ... Goal unmet, and funding? Problem is the two kept their word, as their former backers probably see it. As I see it, a lot of people supported something they had no intention of sacrificing much over. Screw the commitment, they want their newsletters and pizza and office supplies.
