Merry Christmas! Ten Things Democrats Should Be Energized About Right Now
Julie Roginsky
1. Voters Know Exactly Whos Responsible Now
There is no shared blame, no divided government fog, no both sides governance excuse. Republicans own outcomes. Prices, prosecutions, deportations, court rulings, censorship, foreign policy every consequence has a clear author and its name is the Grand Old Party.
Opposition parties rarely get this kind of clarity.
2. The Midterms Are Structurally on Democrats Side
Midterms punish the party in power. Anger is more motivating than satisfaction, and right now anger belongs disproportionately to voters who did not get what they voted for in 2024 or who failed to realize what they were voting for until it landed.
Just look at what happened this past November to see what it means for next year. Democrats won landslide elections in states that were supposed to be close, like New Jersey and Virginia. Despite the hand-wringing, they romped in Californias redistricting referendum. They broke the Republican supermajority in the Mississippi legislature and won three statewide, state-level seats in Georgia, which had not gone Democratic in decades. A few weeks ago, they won the Miami mayorship, something that has not happened in almost thirty years. Even in races that they lost, Democrats came much closer than they have in decades, if ever.
