(22,520 posts)My mom had a malignant lump removed from her right breast followed by radiation when I was 10 years old. I was terrified I was going to lose my mom. She had a recurrence 9 years later and underwent a mastectomy.
Never came back again after that and she enjoyed another 26 years of life.
Stay strong!

(154 posts)That's the mantra I've been living by for so many years debm55. It gets scary at times so understandable if you're in that place now. Just know that you are cared about, loved, of lovely value to those around you. You got this, here's one internet stranger rooting for you.

(10,103 posts)I was given literature at my mamo a few weeks ago that said 8-10% of mammograms require a callback. Out of those 1-2% detect cancer. So your odds are good that itβs nothing.
I went through it a few years ago. The worst part was it cost me several hundred dollars for them to tell me it was probably a crease on the film. They scared the shit out of me and charged me hundreds for a crease.
Hopefully there is a crease in your future.

(74 posts)is this diagnostic or are they removing the lump?
i hope everything turns out ok - my wife just had a lump removed last week (the day after the election, and while i wish she wasn't going through all of this, she had a few hours of blissful ignorance under anesthesia).

(30,361 posts)I know how you feel. Last year for the first time I was told to go back for another mammogram and an ultrasound. It turned out to be nothing, but I was scared. I just had this year's mammogram and it came back normal. So have faith and think positive. All will be well!!!

(35,456 posts)...with a surgical biopsy. It was a cyst that looked funny to the radiologist, nothing more.
If it's more than that, breat cancer is often treatable. My Sister-in-law had a cancerous lesion removed with a lumpectomy, kept her breast and is now almost a full decade into remission.
Be well. All of DU is pulling for a much loved member.
