I remember it well. I was at the Navy Recruit Training Command in San Diego. Weather was horrible for San Diego Standards. Rainy, wind, cold. To protect its assets the Navy had us humans inside most of the day listening to canned lectures saved for such occurrences. I do remember the one about always having a box of thank you cards in your sea bag. Great advice. The Company Commander stepped into his office for a minute and came back with a radio. He plugged it in and tuned in the subject football game. We gathered round and the smack talk started. It was the non Navy Highlight of my eight weeks. Oklahoma scored 10 points in the 4th qtr to win 17-14. 52 years ago today.

(10,316 posts)My brother was in his last year as an undergrad, and I was in my first. He and his wife of a year and a half were living in a trailer, and he cooked dinner. My mother and two sisters were also in attendance. I dont remember dinner, but I recall the game. Johnny Rodgers had a long punt return, which probably sealed the Heisman Trophy for him.
