This really hits me because my dog is a senor dog now, and we are both realizing that we can't do some of the things he used to love to do. I can't tell if it bothers him or whether I'm projecting. When he seems down I shower him with affection and try to distract him with the things he still can do. He has some health issues that are gradually getting worse. I just want him to feel so accepted and to know that no matter if he can't walk very much, or jump up onto the bed, I still love him just as much as the day he came to my house (and I do, beyond words).

I've been thinking that he will be my last dog--it's just so hard to go through the end stage of owning a dog (you all know what I mean--it is torture). But in the back of my mind I have thought, Maybe the thing to do is to adopt senior dogs. As I get older, it could be a really great fit. We can both slow down together.
