Joe Black: A tribute to Robert Capa

We are delighted to be reunited with Joe Black's iconic 'Made in China' series once again. This diptych is titled 'Copy-Red' and has been dry stored in its original crate since being produced. It's available both as a diptych or individually. Inspired by Robert Capa’s iconic photograph of a boy soldier taken in 1938, British artist Joe Black created a series of images of Capa's soldier, creating them using hand painted toy soldiers mounted on aluminium.

Joe says of the series: 'The series features a portrait of a Chinese soldier boy, inspired by Robert Capa's iconic photograph. The image along with its mirrored version, is an exploration of the concept of 'copying' and symbolises China's cultural preference for imitation and replication over originality'.

Black's work is in collections worldwide and has appeared in numerous international publications including Tatler Hong Kong, Paris Match, The Financial Times, Wall Street International, BBC Radio and The Guardian amongst many others.
