When I dial Ireland on my cell

The phone call won't go through. It just bleeps and disconnects. Should I use my landline? Are there still operators available? I'm really out of it.

You might google how to dial Ireland from the US on a mobile phone. The advice you'll find often includes the proper format for the country code. I've had to do this before on how to dial the US from another country turns out the country code for that is not just 1+.

Edit: If this doesn't work maybe contact your carrier.

Second edit: Your calling plan needs to allow you to call other countries as well.

Here were their instructions. Check with your carrier to see if the same process applies. IMPORTANT: Dialing the + before the international number is the key, at least with my carrier.

Dial international numbers (Call another country from the U.S.)

1. On your device, open the dialer in your phone app to make a call.

2. Enter the plus sign + (press and hold the 0 key), followed by the country code, and then the phone number.

For example, to call Mexico from the US: Enter the plus sign + > Enter 52 > Enter the two or three-digit area code > Enter the 7 or 8 digit phone number.

and we can't reach him on our cell phones. We have to use our landline. That's the only reason we still have a landline.

At least for my carrier, I have to dial a plus (+) before the international number. The instructions I entered above show you how to dial the plus on your cell. So in your case, you'd dial
