ever since my early childhood grey tabby named Smokey. We were inseparable, two peas in a pod. Never understood the reputation for being aloof.

I remember when a cousin my age was visiting our house with his parents. I was petting Smokey while my cousin was nearby watching. Suddenly the cousin jumped back and said, "Watch out. He's growling." He would not believe me when I said that Smokey was just purring and that meant that he was happy.
