(94,138 posts)A couple of items I have encountered in life, that were perpetual pass arounds. My favorite was a greeting card that was originally a Thank You card from my wedding. As a joke, because we had leftovers, my spouse and I used it as a smarmy birthday card to his mother or brother by crossing out the "Thank" and replacing by hand with "Happy Birthday" scrawled in sloppy cursive so that then it read, "Happy Birthday You!"
It made appearances at nearly every family event for a couple years, until there was no room left around the word "You!" to scribble the event in after crossing out all the previous edits.
Thats funny. My brother and I tried the card thing but it only lasted one round. We didnt do birthdays though. We did conception day
or as close to it as we could get. We figured birthdays were joyful, yes, but still full of angst and pain whereas conception day/night is full of fun.

(94,138 posts)I can't recall what most were. The thing being that instead of collecting dust in my home they could be put to better use/appreciated by someone else who might actually use/likes whatever it was. Whomever gave it to me went to the trouble of selecting and presenting it to me so if I don't like or want it I can honor my friend's intent by seeing that it gets to someone who would like it.
I always informed the gift giver at some point, that I had passed it on. They never objected.
