The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI can't count the number of live concerts I've seen.
My favorite shows are those that are not over-produced. Are not polished. The type of show where the musician's mood at that very moment comes through in the music. Shows that have a few mistakes in them.
This is the Billy Strings show that I keep coming back to watch. It's aggressive and angry. Seems like he's letting out some angst at this show, and it's coming out in some incredible and raw music. This is how I satisfy my soul these days. Watching full concerts on YouTube, since I haven't been to an actual show in awhile.
Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's my cup of tea. If you have an interest, you may want to put this one on for the whole show.
Merry Christmas and happy and joyous holidays, everyone.

(19,192 posts)If I was at a Dead show, and the playing got so intense that they would forget the words when it came time to come back in with a verse...I knew that show was going to be epic.
They would take my breath away, and all they were doing was standing there and playing without any theatrics. Barely moving as they played.
Incredible times.

(18,739 posts)I love music! I really love live music!!!!
That was in the early 90's or so. I'd been seeing shows since 1965 - when I was 12 yrs old. My mom took me, and my cousins. First show was Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, and headliners The Animals in NYC/Central Park.
Saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium later that summer.
I've seen nearly 300 shows: 95% paid. A few sitting outside an outdoor venue. Unfortunately difficult circumstances cut my show going down bc of less income in the mid'90's onward. Very luckily my sis would lend me the money.
Four of my Ultra Favorites: The Who, Bruce Springsteen/E St, The Patti Smith Group, U2; I've seen around 20xs each, and Midnight Oil ?3xs.
The rest are single to 2-3 times. While I have a few difinitive types I don't like, thus don't see; I've seen performers from
C,S,N & Y to Mavis Staples.
"Wildest" show in terms of extra event occurances? We were at a C,S,N & Y show in NJ where half, or more of the audience were carrying radios (it was before boom boxes, so the biggest was like ? 15" x 10" x 3" inches); when....
...someone ran up to Crosby right after a song ?1/2 - 2/3rds of the way through.
Then he announced that...
...Nixon had resigned!!!
Joyful pandemonium!!!!! 🎉🎉 🎉
Omg! 😄😄😄
(and why all these people had radios!)
It was the best!!!

You were lucky to have been able to see such performances.
