Very important tips on brewing good coffee.

Last edited Wed Dec 25, 2024, 01:51 PM - Edit history (2)

Rinse the carafe.

Use fresh cold water.

Use good beans. In Columbus I get them from a little hippy coffee store in
Clintonville, Yeah, Me Too. https://yeahmetoocoffee.com/

Grind the beans and put the freshly ground coffee beans into the filter in the basket
above the carafe.

Make sure the coffee maker is turned on. Very important.

(back in the last millenium), we had a sign that read, "When all else fails, try plugging it in."

Problem with decaf is how they process it. Lots of unhealthy chemicals. I use Peet's Water Processed..

After a few trips to Europe, I got spoiled on good coffee.

Remember to actually put the coffee in the basket.
Nothing like waking up to a carafe of hot water.

Mine's old fashioned, I have to boil the water then pour it over the ground beans in a funnel shaped thing but you do have to make the water hot somehow.

Don't have one in the neighborhood. I should look into that, has to be somebody that doesn't involve a four-hour round trip to the Bay area and some actual hippies!

So to check the transgressions of which I've been guilty:

Beans in five-pound bag from Costco instead of somebody who puts some heart into it, check

Completely mangling the grind, check.

Unrinsed carafe, check.

Forgetting to put water in the coffeemaker's reservoir, check.

Forgetting to put coffee in the coffeemaker, check.

Forgetting to put a filter in the basket before adding the froonkin' coffee, check.

Walking away to heat something up for breakfast and walking back to realize I never pushed the Big Obvious Button That Starts The Danged Thing, check.

Basically I think I'm in a classic Catch-22 every morning where I need to get some coffee in me before I can make coffee. Absent that I manage to get a decent carafe of the stuff, through unfocused eyes and with three sputtering brain cells engaged, about once a week.

Really small scale and he ships all over America. Full pounds of coffee unlike the
12 ounce bags from the stores or Starbucks.

Don't browse DU's Lounge during coffee consumption sips or swallows.

I can't tell you how many times I had taken a full sip, clicked on something, not having quite fully swallowed the coffee that's in my mouth and wanted to burst out laughing.

This doesn't happen as frequently as it use to but still happens on occasion.
