In the 60s they were the only ones open

(3,236 posts)all my Jewish friends and coworkers would go to a movie and then out for Chinese on Christmas. I joined in a few times and think it is a great tradition.

(10,896 posts)We used to do that too, Christmas Story tradition. Then the kids got older..different plans. Family holiday joke is that our traditions change all the time.
Hope you get to enjoy a peaceful and serene day. Pass on Holiday Cheer to everyone.

(34,329 posts)The young clerk counted the money and I was a couple of cents short and he asked if I was trying to Jew him.
I gave him a stern look and said "you aren't funny, I'm Jewish". The look on his face told me he'd never use that line again..

(2,445 posts)at Christmas, and particularly among Jewish people, originated in occupied Shanghai during WWII. The Jews had been ghettoized, rather than being exterminated which was the suggestion from above, and while they suffered many hardships they were obviously glad, on learning after the war what had happened to so many others, to have spent their days together, at least, and to have survived. A penchant for Chinese food, and for the game of Man Jong, both originated there and have long continued.

(70,625 posts)The Chinese restaurant a couple towns over is much better than the one in our town. So, that's where I went!
