According to recent astronomical observations, Earth has temporarily captured a small asteroid named "2024 PT5" which is essentially acting as a "mini-moon" or a second moon, although it won't be visible to the naked eye and will only orbit Earth for a limited time before escaping back into space.
The asteroid 2024 PT5 is relatively tiny, likely the size of a school bus, making it too small to see without a powerful telescope

Personally, I think it's an automated survey vessel, just updating the Galactic database. The despoiling of our biosphere will probably just be a footnote in the filed summary.
Inventing the warp drive is probably our only chance at surviving as a species, because we really need some help. Soon.

SciFi writers have envisioned a future where a full snapshot of the brain's neuron pathways and electro chemical state can be copied (either destructively or non) and copied into an artificial substrate to host the process, and the copy could be immortal, interacting with the Real World and/or existing in an artificial environment.
