I have a question regarding transitioning....

I spoke with an old friend today whom I've recently (over the past three years) connected with. We've known each other practically our entire lives (we're both now 67 y.o.) She lives in a Red state with her husband (her second and a GREAT guy). We were all born and raised in that state and thank God I got out in '88 and NEVER looked back. They'd love to move to a Blue state (Colorado) but her adult kids (from her first husband) live in the Red state and she doesn't want to leave them.

They found out a couple of weeks ago that his only child (from his first marriage) is transitioning from male to female. They were really taken aback. One of their main concerns is the man/woman (around 28 years old) said they are getting their medication from someone other than a doctor.

Do folks do this? Are there people that sell the meds (I guess on the black market)? Is this dangerous? I wasn't able to get a lot of details because she can't really talk until Monday. Our other childhood friends are Jesus Freak trumpsters.

Can anyone give me some feedback? Thank you..

I think there are other DU sites which could help.

I'm highly suspicious of any path that involves prescription medicines not requiring a doctor's sanction.
Who know whether any other medical conditions are contrary to those meds.
A bad idea, indeed.

I know.....And they are educated and have a good job. I don't know why they aren't going though the medical doctor route.

I'll get more information on Monday....

Safest to do under a drs supervision but maybe trying to do it on the cheap. Could be doing it with telemedicine or some alternative heath practitioner. Nurse practitioners can prescribe some of these meds. Need prescriptions for anti androgens & oral estrogens but not for cream estrogens.

“Hormone regimes for transgender women (male to women, MTF)

Oral conjugated estrogens 2.5–7.5mg/day

3. Parenteral estrogen

the transition MUST be overseen by a medical professional - anything else would be potentially very dangerous indeed

is it a financial issue? I can see that but it's not a good idea for ANY reason
