out of a tall tree during a storm. I found four dead babies in it. That's when I stood in the driveway and just sobbed for 30 minutes. Got it all out of my system and then buried the little ones in the woods.

I found a frozen red squirrel in my yard once and all these memories of my dad flooded in because red squirrels were so prevalent where he’d lived in the north woods of Wisconsin. I cried on and off for the rest of the day, mourning my dad and the little squirrel. I don’t have red squirrels in my yard anymore and I miss them.

I love to watch the squirrels that frequent out backyard. I think of them as "our" squirrels.

Several of them have white fur on their ears. One has an almost naked tail, with a big tuft of fur at the tip. It looks healthy and well fed, and all the fur on its body is sleek and not at all patchy. We have no idea why the tail looks the way it does.
