A miniscule milestone of the Lounge variety, SHhhh (flip flops)

So flips have been a treasured part of my retirement dress code - am talking all day every day except for a couple of hours if socialization is involved. No probs keeping them on, in all activities like mowing the grass, driving. Have other options, such as boots for weekly happy hours and slides for Never. Otherwise, flips flips flips - black for blue shorts/shirts, brown for browns. But recently a boo-boo on a foot has made the flips unfeasible for the bandage at the strap crossing location. Tried the slides, which had never used for years, and how is walking possible with those things - slipping off driving, shuffling around.

Have also had the Hippie type Tevas for years unused, looked sort of Hippie has-been dorky. But today had to do some mowing touchup and needed secure striding, so did the Teva thing, which was surprisingly comfortable. But living for the return to flips.

*** SHhhh: If you know, you know.

Inherited the love of flops from my Mom. She wore them as house shoes and moved quickly, so the sound of her flip-flip-flip-flipping is a big part of my childhood memories. I picked up the habit and would buy ten pair of the $1 black ones from Walmart each spring. They lasted all year. The fancy, expensive ones are too heavy.

Anyhooo… my last pair (these ones were from Walgreens) blew out about four months ago. Walmart doesn’t carry my favorite flops any longer and Walgreens didn’t have any left in stock. Tried a few on at the dollar store and they sucked. Was making due with some Croc flops but, after the septic tank flood in the basement, they are now confined to the basement and outside. They’ve been disinfected several times but I’m just not comfortable wearing them on the bedroom rug now.

So, my current house shoe is a pair of rubber birkenstock sandal knock-offs. It took longer than expected to adjust (I wear Birkenstock clogs in every non-flop situation and have for a couple of decades), but I’m finally happy with them. Will be happier when I find the perfect flops again.

We flippers are connoisseurs and very particular - NO to those with the extra thin straps! And never crocs (for me).

regular flip flops can't hack it off road where I live, so I just grow calluses and go barefoot most of the time. I did buy some xero shoes sandals with straps like original tevas. they're not bad.
