A military joke
A brand new Ensign reported to his first ship and meets the crusty, old Command Master Chief.
He says; "Master Chief, they tought us a lot about officer ranks at the Academy, but never discussed the symbolism of the various collar devices we wear".
The Master Chief says; "well son, it's like this. You're an O1, so we give you a gold bar. It's a prescious metal, but is still pretty soft and easy to mold.
Then, when you make O2, we give you a silver bar. Still a prescious metal, but a bit more hardened.
Then, when you make O3, we give you another silver bar and strap a backbone on it.
Then, there is the silver eagle. A symbol of power and grace.
Then the silver star. The brightest light in the night sky, and what men have looked to, to lead and guide them".
The Ensign thought for a minute and said; "thanks Master Chief, but what about the gold and silver oak leafs?"
The Master Chief says; "well son, that goes all the way back to the creation of the world. God came to man in the Garden of Eden, handed him two leaves and said; 'for all eternity, you will use these two leaves to cover your pricks and assholes"!
