Dream #4

Happy Tuesday everyone! I've been away getting the lighting redone in the main house and now we can see our artwork! And I can see in the studio most excellently - first time in years! Anyway, here's an acrylic 10" x 10" block canvas painting I made in San Francisco. I call her Dream #4. Z fell in love with her when he met me, so I gave her to him.

My daughter Tessa's little black cat scratch art is in the right corner.

She's been doing art since middle school - and we're currently enrolled in the same school. (She's pursuing a BA in studio art; I'm pursuing a BFA in photography). She's struggled a lot with her health, which has limited her life since she she was around 18. So at 33 she's still 22 hours or so from earning her bachelor's degree. I have so many areas in my wheelhouse that I get recognition for that I was a bit worried about jumping into the one area where she excels. So I asked her permission before I enrolled in the first class. She didn't have a problem - and rather than seeing me as competition, she seems to enjoy the role of mentoring me. So it's a win-win!

I'm sorry about your daughter's health problems - art always helps when I can't physically do much of anything.

She's almost to her BA!!! I'm so glad that you're doing art basically with your daughter - it's the best! I have 2 daughters - both are talented but don't do much art - my eldest expressed the desire to draw again - she'll do it sometime. I'll give her one of my sketch pads and a set of drawing pens.

I've never looked at art as competition, just different flavors, if you know what I mean!
