When I first got back into painting, I loved painting complicated subjects. I enjoyed the detail work. Now I'm painting simpler things. Sometimes less is more, I'm discovering!

When you begin... you concentrate on technique to the exclusion of your artistic voice.
Once comfortable with the technique, you can listen to your subconscious mind directing you toward your unique voice.
You have to master classical before you can move on to jazz.

little or no formal training. Perhaps your definition of jazz is too narrow.
