During the Emmys "In Memoriam" segment, there was mix-up.
André Previn, who died Feb. 28, was recognized during the memorial. But the photo the awards show used to identify the composer and conductor was of someone else.
Instead, the face of Leonard Slatkin, 75, conductor, composer and music director laureate at Detroit Symphony, popped up on the screen and he is still very much alive.
In an emailed statement to USA TODAY, the producers, the Television Academy and Fox said they "sincerely apologize for this error."

A very dynamic (obviously much younger) conductor... a rock star of the classical music world (to borrow a phrase)

(106,825 posts)segments. The past several years have been really beyond horrible--leaving out so many (talking to you,, Oscars) and misnaming or other errors. Many of us actually do watch these segments. They are important.
