Any other wood turners?

I've recently gotten into turning pens, small bowls, and platters, was curious if any other DU'ers are also turners.

Here's a few recent items..

What are turning on? I've got a Jet 1234 mid sized lathe , a Jet mini, and my old Shop Smith Mark v
though I haven't turned anything lately.

3. I have a jet 1236, and 1014. I'm saving up to upgrade (prolly a powermatic 3520b).

I'm tired of leaving most of a bowl blank on the floor- if I can get even a single extra core from a blank, i'll be doubling my output.

1236, not 1234

I would like to get a powermatic as well ... but I'm saving up just to pay the rent, so ...

5. Well, I should be busy for a while..

A neighbor's tree cracked during a recent severe thunderstorm, and I helped cut it up. I have bowl blanks, and spindle blanks, and pen blanks to last me for a year (once they dry).

The wife asked for this one, for grinding up herbs for pesto. It's a food-safe mineral oil and beeswax finish.

A small lidded box, made out of a scrap of hornbeam..


My first attempt at pyrography-


And an ash platter with a basket weave illusion..

15. Latest works..

Bradford pear bowl with pyrography. The pear was from a neighbor's yard.


Celtic knotwork on a small curly maple bowl. The maple was from the side of the road!


Finished this one this afternoon. Pyrography on a 11" maple plate.

These are from the same wood that was harvested above. It's finally dry enough to turn without warping.

The lid and the body are from the same tree, no dye or coloration was added.

This one is ambrosia maple..



And this one was a piece of oak firewood that had cracked- I filled the cracks with epoxy and cocoa!



And this was a piece of live oak that I hollowed, then ran through the sand blaster..
