On this day, November 22, 1971, Zez Confrey died.

Zez Confrey

The sheet music for "Dizzy Fingers".

Edward Elzear "Zez" Confrey (April 3, 1895 – November 22, 1971) was an American composer and performer of novelty piano and jazz music. His most noted works were "Kitten on the Keys" and "Dizzy Fingers."

You know the tune. You just never knew its name.

Liberace's brother is one of the violinists.

The Eddy Duchin Story

An Eddy Duchin story: my father was stationed in Australia during the war. He had a lifelong friend who became a dentist. The dentist was also in the war, but I can't recall where. One day the dentist looked over at someone and said something to the effect of, "you know, you look just like Eddy Duchin." It turns out he was Eddy Duchin.

I found this video a few months ago. Let's see what one of those old Steinways can really do.

Fri Nov 23, 2018: One more notable death, but more lighthearted: Zez Confrey, November 22, 1971

A few minutes after I posted, Grasswire2 replied:

Of course Confrey also composed "Kitten On The Keys" and many many other innovative and complex pieces.

Here's a complete review of his work, from my friend Bill Edwards (authority on the genre).
