Here's a totally different sound for Randy & the boys. It's off the album just before the one your song is from.
The guitar work is unexpected for BTO. I can't think of BTO without remembering this song.

...the jazziness of it, especially that solo at the end.
Then, the soft jazzy section leading into a riff that sound like Black Sabbath would do it.
