Want to Make a MAGAT's Head Explode? - Just play this

This really works. I've seen it work.

One aspect of the Narcissistic personality disorder that characterizes MAGATs is an inability to process or understand emotional information. This extends to the inability to process, appreciate or even understand music beyond the most rudimentary rhythm and tonal progressions. Many can't even discern one melody from another. Combine this with their innate ignorance and you get people who do not understand that "Stars and Stripes Forever" is a different piece of music from "Star Spangled Banner".

Many, many, many, years ago, I heard a morning drive DJ (midwest, REDDD state) play this piece as a joke, only to have the station besieged by complaints and even death threats for "How dare you disrespect our national anthem like that" Since then, I tried it out on a manager of mine who was a fulminating Narcissistic Sociopath, with the same result.

So play this for that anti-social MAGAT who has shown up for Thanksgiving. Let us know how it went.

1. Really? They can't distinguish between a rousing march and a somber end of the night drinking tune?

I’m not a musician in any way but I can’t imagine mistaking the two. Maybe these people don’t actually listen to the Star Spangled Banner which they have had to have heard a couple thousand times in their lives.

about a piece he thought would sound good if I played it in my acoustic folk style with acoustic folks instruments. For you to understand, I am inserting the very piece he mentioned.

And please note. This is a serious answer. This is for real. This is what he actually proposed for me to play on acoustic folk instruments)

these "people" do not think or react as you or I or any normal human does. They process information differently from the wau normal people do. (Neuro-divergence).

I am personally incapable of understanding how he could ever have come up with such a thing, but this was not the only time for him, and he was not the only Narc I have had experience with who has shown a complete mis-understanding of music. What it is, how it works and what it means.

that made me laugh.

I may be aesthetically blind to music like that though. as in I can't imagine it being covered to any pleasurable end.

I had one such individual tell me he disapproved of this recording because he only liked "The original version"

"the original version"?
i don't know the history of the song but somehow I always believed it was older than anyone still alive. and old enough that the "original" was never recorded in a format that i could listen to. was i wrong?

ETA i googled: 1816. pretty sure your friend never heard the "original" and your version is as true to it as any, and quite beautiful
