Barry McGuire -- Eve of Destruction

This song needs updating, but it still strikes a chord, so to speak...

"Ah, you may leave here for four days in space,
But when you return, it's the same old place.
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,

But you tell me over and over again. my friend,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction."

Damn, we had good music in the sixties!

A slightly newer version by Casey Abrams and Cyndi Lauper from 2020 prior to the election with newer lyrics pertinent to us during that election as a GOTV that year. Very good as well. Yes about Sixties but we have some amazing music and writers now too. And easy to discover. Just not on the radio. Kinda like news on the radio, all trash.

I have both on my “Right Fucking Now” play list to learn. Chords are easy, but my decomposing brain has a time learning songs with long detailed lyrics.
Why Dylan songs are kinda outta reach.
As far as great 60’s music, I was watching a special fund raising NPR airing of “Concert for George” last night when this post came up.
Clapton, Jeff Lynn, Petty, McCartney, Ringo, Preston, Prince and many more, with George’s son Danny.
All the songs brought back a time, still with lots of problems we faced but the music was a great way to have a voice to educate and unite us.
Not sure music will fix this hell we face right now. But it damn sure can give us a place to escape for a few minutes.
Rock on!

For sanity purposes,
Shawn Mullins “Pre-Apocalyptic Blues” (When the shit goes down)
Todd Snider, “Conservative Christian, Right Wing Republican, Straight White American Male”
Longest title in history.
My Republican bother and sister in law, (not Trumpers) were not amused I learned this one and played it to them.
Cheers.
