(19,457 posts)Edgar has a fun story he tells in concerts about why that came to be.
It goes back to him being jealous of the guitar player prancing about on stage while he had to stay behind his keyboard.
The best 10 minutes I spent all week.

(70,784 posts)He used a modified Univox CP series as his "keytar". Those things weighed 21# unmodified!
He had to be in pretty good shape to bounce around with that beast hanging from his shoulders.

(3,512 posts)Just his paleness but he always looked so frail. 21#
Hanging from your neck had to feel like 100# after 20 minutes or so.

(13,596 posts)Went to several great concerts at the Amphitheater in those years. Humble Pie put on a great show. I remember seeing someone from the front row hand Steve Mariott a joint when he was doing a number from the Smokin' album.
Couple years later I was working a summer job. Talking about concerts with a coworker, he told me how he wrangled a front row seat at Humble Pie, and the guy next to him passed him a joint on a fancy roach clip. Steve Mariott was right in front of him, so after taking a hit he handed the joint up to Mariott who also partook.
"I saw you do it!!!

(3,512 posts)I preferred Chicago concerts to Milwaukee because Chicago was more lax about smoke. But it was really nice living right between both cities and having Alpine Valley just down the road.

(13,596 posts)I was at the concert there the night before the helicopter crash killed Stevie Ray Vaughan and others. Eric Clapton was great, but I thought Stevie stole the show. That was a terrible loss.

(3,512 posts)Kinda put me in shock. We went to see Robert Cray. We've seen Clapton and Stevie Ray before. UNBELIEVABLE
I guess you could say Stevie Ray gave the performance of his life that night.
