Does anyone have new insights on Logic 10

Will it exist ? Release date ?

I can't hold off upgrading from 8 much longer I wanted Logic Studio 9 but have heard nothing but bad things about the mastering software included

I actually enjoyed using Logic when Emagic owned it. After Apple took it over, there was some advancements just as they did with Final Cut Pro in the late 1990's early 2000's. But Apple has now gone strictly 'pro-sumer', and I have finally had to give up on both FCP and Logic. Everything in the music industry right now is geared towards iPads, iPods, and interfacing with them. A million wannabes using the same app with the same tone with the same effects with the same everything else. Don't get me started!

Logic 9 was atrocious. I have never been a big ProTools guy as it isn't great with MIDI (it has been getting better over the years.) I used to love Opcode products especially Studio Vision Pro. I also loved Cakewalk Metro. For a heavy MIDI guy like me, that's the kind of program I need. I don't use VST or soft synths or samplers. I have a room full of keyboards and racks of old 80's and 90's hardware synths, samplers, and effects boxes. I still have quite a few analog pieces that are connected via CV/Gate to Midi boxes.

So currently, unless Logic 10 makes some sort of amazing turn-around, I am switching to ProTools for mastering and Sagantech Metro 7 for MIDI. Sagantech bought Cakewalk Metro and have updated it for OS X and modern use. It will work seamlessly with PT's and give me exceptional MIDI tools. I have used Macs for music since the early 1988 but I am seriously considering a switch to Windows 7. We'll see.

What is your use scenario?

2. My set up is real simple

A midi keyboard And old Yamaha s80 which I use for audio keys. Lots of other audio of course. I like to mic amps

So midi is not central to me. All my drum patches are through logic
I like it even though many don't like the ultra beat interface

Here's hoping they don't ignore this small but vital area of their business I think logic has created a lot of goodwill because its not seen as overly complicated

As to everything sounding the same, I put that on the unimaginative musician and corporate music, not the technology per se.
I have used the technology to come up with good sounds I could not otherwise

As to the compression and loss fidelity , man that's a battle that we lost some time ago. I dislike the way my stuff sounds on spotify particularly
Save a needle , turntable and clean vinyl for your grand kids. Then they will know what music used to sound like

3. Yeah, it sounds

like Logic is perfect as long as you can jump to Logic 10 and it isn't the trash that Logic 9 turned out to be.

You might consider ProTools, at least an entry level version, as it is the king of mastering. With the mic'ing of amps and such, it would work well. What's your hardware interface?

Technology alone is not the only reason, but if you combine the technology, the corporatization, and the unimaginative musician, it is an unholy trifecta.

Yeah, I have been fighting back recently against the compression, loss of fidelity, and loudness wars. I have a little jazz album that I am actually going to get pressed to vinyl here soon which I am mastering back to ADAT. While still in the digital domain, it will have much greater range and dynamics.

I don't have kids, but I do have quite a bit of vinyl.

4. MOTU ultralite ...it's little but

It's the only vendor that is sure to work with Macs. Flawless and clean 3 years running

Best of luck on your album. My lady singer had throat surgery and she can't work for a while. So I'm kind of in holding pattern , chomping at the bit waiting for her and Apple

5. Cool

Yeah, I have seen some good products come out of MOTU. Though today, there isn't a vendoer of audio inputs that isn't Mac and PC compatible. If they aren't compatible with anything, it is more likely Windows than Mac.

Thanks. It is a solo jazz piano work. I am not much of a singer/songwriter myself though I can do backing harmonies. My girlfriend is the singer/songwriter. Sorry to here that your singer is out of commission for awhile.
