Neon and rusted tin

I happened upon this sign in Davis, WV.

1. I remember Cox variety store, friendly sales people, good quality merchandise.

4. This particular Cox store or elsewhere? Was it a franchise with multiple locations?

9. same location, my grandparents lived near there when I was a kid.

10. This is a wonderful surprise, Meadowoak. I've wondered what became of the store

and what it was like when it was in business. The building appears to have been converted to a warehouse and it's probably been many years since the sign was functional. Were the tubes white when lighted?

Davis is near two of my favorite places, Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley.

11. It's been more than 50 years ago, I remember they had bags of old fashioned

Candy, clothing, kitchenware. I didn't see the sign lit up, we went right after church. I think I was 6 or 7.
