I hit Costco this morning and came home with lots of stuff!

In our 2-story house with storage upstairs, and a dumb waiter to transport stuff between floors. . . How do you move it once you're upstairs?

My laundry cart is perfect for this sort of transportation!

1. I ask my 18 year old kiddo

to help his mama out and move stuff from A to B.

My kids are (sob) in their 50's and have households of their own!

The cart is so damned useful! I use it mostly for ferrying the dirty clothes from our bedroom into the laundry room. It saves me a lot of time and energy!

10. When my kids lived at home, I'd remind them that I was going to recoup

my $400 a month grocery bill for MILK. And they were going to help out around the house.

It wasn't that bad, but my son would drink a gallon every two days.

3. My house has a dumb owner that brings that stuff upstairs.

And once I move it up there, then I move it around and sometimes move it back downstairs.

My house is a ranch. But I have a basement & I've been decluttering it & am amazed at how much I've collected over the years, lots of it brand new in the original package.

5. Yes, a real dumb waiter! Our house is about 21 years old (we built it).

and there's a neighbor nearby that has one too.

Think of it as a mini-elevator. We can't ride in it, but our luggage, stuff from Costco and like that can.

It's very useful!

7. My aunt lived in an old farmhouse that had one from the second floor to the basement

with the laundry shoot next to it. I was seven when I first saw all that & thought how cool!

8. Yeah, I've heard about laundry chutes. Alas, they only go one way.

But the dumb waiter takes care of the other way!

You say you built your own..Was it difficult?

15. We hired an architect and a builder who knew each other and had worked together.

They did the heavy lifting and we paid for it.

It was a lot of fun! We were all still friends when it was done.

We have never had such a terrific house!

11. We have a son who brings in the bags of salt for the softener

One on each shoulder 🙂. Takes them right down the stairs. Also the big bags of dog food.

18. All two story homes should have a dumb waiter! So often people sell their homes when it's too

difficult to manage lugging things up the stairs. My hubby and I gave up our big house several years ago when he became disabled. I miss my big gardens, but enjoy my apartments heated underground parking, elevators and full crew that handles all the snow shoveling and repairs. If we had a dumb waiter, we may have kept the house longer.
