Saturday's Horses - Maddie & Pete - Neighbors Satine and Pistol + 'Round The Farm

Last edited Sat Jul 11, 2026, 05:09 PM - Edit history (1)

Our neighbor Grace brought her other mare over. Her name is Pistol.
She's on the right.

Satine looking at camera.

Satine by herself.

Maddie and Pete ~
They were grazing. Suddenly Maddie raised her head and looked right at me.

She dropped her head, ate some more.

Then looked at me again. As if she knew she on camera.

Eating dinner.

Shadow likes to harass the horses. We don't like her to. She has
a bark collar which helps.
The other morning she got Pete teed off.

But usually they ignore THAT DOG.

Around The Farm ~
The previous owners planted flowers and we're glad they did.

This Common Bugloss produces dense clusters of small, five-petaled
flowers that are typically dark purple-blue with a white center.

Black-eyed Susans

Clematis Vine

Same vine, different angle.

Orange Day Lily

___________________________________________________________
Finally she rests.

Barn has inside lights.

She created a walkway to the barn —

and through to the other side.

Their first time in the barn together. It's why Laurie built her barn.

Laurie looks like that time out was much needed. Maybe for a special birthday or other occasion, a nice massage would be gift she would like…careful, tho..one could possibly get used to them!

The night shots are really nice.

Funny about clematis…. I love it and tried to grow some here on a trellis. Our previous Lab, Molly, kept digging it up and I finally had to give up on it! She was such a good dog and never dug any holes or dug up any plants, but for some reason she couldn’t leave the clematis vine alone. Weird!

It was weird what Molly did. I'd never seen any until we moved here. We're fortunate that the old owners planted as much as they did.

Love seeing these magnificent creatures! Ty for sharing.

Shadow should be careful harassing the horses! Perhaps frustrated she can't herd them?

Glad Lori took a break!

The barn is amazing!

Once they get out in pasture I'll take more pix.

Shadow should be more careful. Not long ago she was wearing her anti-bark collar when she charged Maddie from behind her. Maddie lashed out with a swift kick. Both Laurie and I heard a "clack" of impact and decided Maddie's hoof conneected with the bark collars casing. Whew - close call.

You make a good point about herding, which seems instinctual to Shadow. She'd make a great herding dog if only she would guide the horses where we want them to go!

TY SheltieLover!

It’s evident that much thought and work was involved in that barn. Well done! I have a similar purple clematis and I get so many comments on it. Really a prolific and beautiful flower.

Can you please explain the purpose of the face covering on Maddie? I love horses, they’re such gorgeous animals, but don’t know much about them. Thanks.

Maddie's wearing a fly mask, which keeps flies from her nose, her eyes, etc. The mask also protects against sunburn. I'm glad you asked.

Pete, on the other hand (hoof), doesn't like fly masks. Laurie figures the material makes his skin itch, because every time she puts one on him, he rubs against a fence post until the mask slips off. So he goes maskless.

We love the clematis, really pretty. Thank You for your kind comments. I don't
recall your username; if this is your first time joining us, Welcome!

Guidance - whether it be showing them where to go, when to stay, even how to eat their hay out of the hay bag. I'm glad you're on her side.
