HGTV's Windy City Rehab Stars Have Work Permits Blocked Indefinitely, Licenses Suspended

The future of HGTV show Windy City Rehab is uncertain after the city of Chicago reportedly blocked stars Alison Victoria and Donovan Eckhardt from filing new work permits.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Department of Buildings recently notified Victoria and Eckhardt that they would be unable to file new permit applications. The city has also moved to suspend Eckhardt’s real estate developer license and general contractor license for one year, the outlet reports.

In the notice sent to Eckhardt regarding his license suspension, the city said that he had worked without a permit at 11 different properties, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The city of Chicago has now issued stop-work orders at all of the properties.

Block Club Chicago reports that the Windy City Rehab projects also failed to adhere to safety codes and hired workers who were not properly licensed or certified by the city, among other violations.

1. I enjoyed that show. I hope they are able to reapply for the proper certifications.

She goes way beyond the normal rehabs and produces some really nice renovations. But, then...they are in the area of million dollar rehabs, so they are able to spend mega-bucks in renovation and design.

It also seemed that they had to work around permits for longer periods than should be necessary, so I can see where they might say, "To hell with it," and work without them. Every day they had to delay work was costly. Maybe the departments wanted some kickbacks? Just wonderin'.

2. I support the actions of the City of Chicago...too many rehabbers have been getting away...

with literally bloody murder in their rehab efforts (not have the work certified/etc. at various stages of various projects etc.)...all of the work permit processes are there to protect fellow homeowners and citizens from sloppy work/ethics etc. I have seen in the city of STLMO rehab projects that weren't permitted, and the jobs were so bad, they pretty well had to start all over again...shady developers under the table trying to save a few bucks at the expense of the rest of us homeowners.

Good for the city of Chicago...
