There will be no Macy's Christmas Parade on CBS in 2024

The Thanksgiving Day Parade on CBS has traditionally presented pre-recorded performances from Broadway shows throughout the broadcast.

https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/CBS-Will-Not-Air-Macys-Thanksgiving-Day-Parade-This-Year-20241124

"There is currently no official word as to why this decision has been made".

"For almost 100 years, the magic of the holiday season has kicked off with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year, the parade passes by for the 98th time, featuring its signature mix of whimsical elements and dazzling performances. This year’s official national broadcast on NBC will include performances from Death Becomes Her, Hell’s Kitchen and The Outsiders as well as the iconic Radio City Rockettes.

Established in 1924, the parade has been canceled only three times (1942, 1943 and 1944) since its inception. The event draws roughly 3.5 million spectators on the streets of New York City and over 50 million more who tune in nationwide. For so many Americans, watching the parade, from near or far, is just as much a Thanksgiving tradition as turkey and mashed potatoes."

***I guess there is No Miracle on 34th St in 2024. Maybe tRump threatened to shoot all of them and get away with it.

in my opinion. If ya can’t walk or march in the street, you’re not parade material. JMHO. CNN is doing the parade......having guests too, so not sure how i’m gonna enjoy that, will just have to see how they handle it. Just not gonna be the same without my husband anyway, so, don’t really care.

3. My Mom used to complain about the dance numbers and cutaways from the actual parade, too.

CBS used to do less of that so we'd watch them. Then we'd watch the first football game and switch over to the dog show during the commercials. This will be the first year without her, and I echo your sentiment about it just not being the same.

it’s called Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade. At least that’s how they keep advertising it.

12. Yes, I know. It's always been the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade."

I was questioning why the OP referred to it as the “Christmas” parade. There’s one float — the last one — that features Christmas. The point of the parade was to usher in the Christmas season, and specifically to do their shopping at Macy’s. But it was never called that, where other parades, in other cities, later in the season, are specifically called a Christmas parade.

The other included excerpts in coverage of a number of parades around the country.

At least that’s how I remember it from 20 years ago.

I know Al Roker was the emcee for many years.
