Springdale Council calls for November special election to fill vacancy; renovation of Rabbit Foot Lodge for nonprofit co
SPRINGDALE -- A vacancy on the City Council created by the departure of Aaron Huntley will be filled in a Nov. 3 special election after the city's aldermen approved a resolution calling a special election to fill the Ward 2, Position 2 seat.
Huntley announced at the end of the June 9 meeting he was leaving the council because a job he had taken in Central Arkansas several months ago was becoming a full-time position in July.
Huntley said he has been commuting between Springdale and Central Arkansas for the past several months.
According to the resolution, the filing period for candidates seeking placement on the ballot for the special election shall be from noon on July 29 to noon on Aug. 5. All official petitions for municipal candidates shall be filed with the Washington County Clerk's Office during that period. The ballot position drawing shall occur on Aug. 21 at a place and time set by the Washington County Election Commission.
