Sterling declared winner of Nederland mayoral election

Nichole Sterling is officially the winner of Nederland’s mayoral election.

Sterling, the mayor pro tem, was declared the winner after a Monday recount, securing 261 votes to incumbent Billy Giblin’s 258.

Giblin initially led by a single vote on April 7, the date of the election]. Sterling then led by a single vote after overseas ballots came in.

“In a close election, unofficial totals, post-election totals, and certified recount totals may differ as the statutory process is completed and the final canvass is reconciled,” according to a news release on the town website.
