Mourners brave the cold to pay respects to former President Jimmy Carter at the Capitol

I was watching the evening local news over the air. The narrator said that the line was growing exponentially, and that there is now a 90-minute wait.

I went to the dentist this afternoon. I wouldn’t want to spend 90 seconds standing outside in this, much less 90 minutes. I was bundled up, but my get were getting cold.

WASHINGTON (7News) — We walked down East Capitol Street with Jami and Jamie Hayes, who joined the thousands who came to the Capitol Tuesday night to pay tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter.

"I guess it's somber and everyone is in a reflective mood about him and his accomplishments," Jamie said. "I think it just speaks to what an impact he had, that you have so many young people here."

People lined up by the thousands on 2nd Street, Northeast, in the bitter cold. Eventually, the U.S. Capitol Police removed the metal barricades that were set up before 7 p.m. and allowed access to walk toward the Capitol.

A short walk led to another two let of lines before the public was let onto the Capitol grounds.

{snip}

Those who want to can still pay tribute until Thursday morning.
