Cherry Blossom Watch Update / Kwanzan Edition: April 12, 2021

East Potomac Park, Washington DC

The main cherry blossoms are done now and leafing out, but the Kwanzan cherry blossoms are in full bloom and looking beautiful.

There are fewer of them than the more famous Yoshino cherry blossoms, but they’re especially pretty. And with their bold pink flowers that often reach close to the ground, they’re especially good as backdrops for portrait photos.

There are some Kwanzan cherry blossoms scattered in the area near the Tidal Basin, with large groves of them around East Potomac Park towards Hains Point.

You can find more information about them, as well as a map that shows some places to find them, on the Kwanzan cherry blossom page.
