(I can tell you its way more comfortable to watch from home than to sit on those hard chairs for 6+ hours, though there really is nothing like being in Hilo during Merrie Monarch. If I can find a YouTube video, I will share the cutest one from Mark Keliihoʻomalu; it was a kāne hula (menʻs hula) of 1890s Honolulu newspaper boys. So so fun! Plus I leaned something new about King Kalākaua.

One of my faves fron ʻauwana night, about late 1890s-early 1900s newsboys for the newspaper Hōku Pakipika, which King David Kalākaua ran!
This hālau is usually a little unusual, making up new steps in kahiko, liʻdat. But it served them here!
