Pioneer Fire more than 100,000 acres; Cherry Road Fire tops 31,000

The containment on the Pioneer Fire went down to 47 percent as the acreage estimate went up to 100,367, according to fire managers via Inciweb.

The fire, burning near Lowman has gotten closer to Pioneerville, spurring more voluntary evacuation orders. A Level 2 evacuation order — voluntary but advised — is in effect for residents who live along the South Fork of the Payette River and along South Fork Road, east of Grimes Pass Road. The order is also in effect for residents along Bear Valley Road and in Long Creek.

More than 2,000 people are working on the fire using 91 engines, 12 helicopters, nine bulldozers, 37 water tenders and seven masticators.Highways 17 and 21 are both open, but fire managers urge motorists to use caution when driving on the roads.

Across the Treasure Valley near the Oregon border, the Cherry Road Fire had burned nearly 32,000 acres by Tuesday afternoon and was reported as 60 percent contained, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management reports.
